Cates & Associates has been a practice since 1994. In that time, it has remained small by design, utilizing contracted professionals for the majority of its services. In doing so, the practice has been able to adjust to the needs of the community as these have changed over time, and to continue to fill a niche which is often overlooked or too cumbersome for larger mental health services.
James Cates has published extensively in the field, with over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and the popular press. His articles include the following:
